Built-up Roofing or BUR is a process of multiple plies of felt adhered with asphalt (Either hot or cold). This roof is tough and resilient against punctures and the abuse of mother-nature.

The second type is Modified Bitumen or Mod Bit. This system subtype became popular starting in the 1970’s. Differences in this include less plies required and the addition of reinforcement in the sheets.

Slate

One of the longest lasting and oldest roofing systems, slate is a natural product, mined in quarries and used in steep sloped roofing. Slate comes in many different colors and textures and for the most part, are natural in appearance. The systems, properly done, can last for many many years (in some instances up to and over 100 years). Slate roofing is one of the most costly systems on the market due to cost of material, labor to install and requirements needed in the structure to hold the weight. Wood Shingles/Shakes

Wood shakes and wood shingles are manufactured from western red cedar, cypress, pine and redwood trees. Shakes are split from logs and reshaped by manufacturers for commercial use. They are thicker at the butt end than shingles; generally one or both surfaces are split to obtain a textured effect

Cedar shakes and cedar shingles are available pressure treated with fire retardants and chemical preservatives for increased fire resistance and to prevent premature rot and decay in some climates
